Sir George Grey has been prerailed upon by a deputation to issue an address. In the hands of deputations Sir George leeins to be exceedingly pliable, and if he does much more people will begin to imagine that when he becomes Superintendent the deputation from Wyndhamstreet will still be . all powerful in counsel. Of course it is assumed by the deputation that Sir George Grey will become Superinten dent. We are pleased to learn the worthy knight has consented to an address; perhaps a little more persuasion from the deputation might induce him to undertake a canras, and do the stump in a mild form. Sir George, we are informed--' although greatly attached to Provincitliim, will do whaterer - ii the ex-
press desire of the people, but he will strenuously oppose the abolition of Provincialism unless applied to the whole colony; and further, he will contend for the submission of any constitutional changes to the people before adoption. We like Sir George for this. Jt shows that he is coming round to a reasonable view of what must prove to be inevitable. If he had maintained a position of uncompromising opposition to the abolition of Provincialism he would have alienated many adherents who were inclined to him more favorably than to any other candidate in the field; but the announcement that he will further sacrifice his principles—as he has already sacrificed personal inclination in coming forward —to the sovereign will of the people, will gain him many supporters. We shall look for Sir George's address in extenso, on receipt of which we shall be in a better' position to judge of his views generally on the great political questions which will occupy the attention of the Parliament in the coming session, and in which the Superintendent of a Province must necessarily be largely interested.
