Taituha (a native) was charged with disobeying a summons for unlawfully assaulting one Charles Rowley at Hikutaia, on the 29th of October, 1874, by seizing him by the throat, throwing him down and attempting to throw him into the river. Mr Wilkinson acted as interpreter. Defendant, on being charged, said he knew nothing about the striking. Complainant asked for a remand as he had been unable to procure witnesses in time. He had only come down from Hikutaia. this morning. ; 1 Mr jfullen said the defendant had originally disobeyed a summons issued by complainant, and had subsequently been arrested on a warrant. When brought up the case had been adjourned until today,but all witnesses had not been present, and he (Mr Bullen) would testify that the prosecutor had made every exertion to get his witnesses here to-day. His Worship told the Interpreter to explain to defendant that the Court could have no consideration for him, as he had neglected to respond to the summons. He would adjourn the case till this day week, and hold defendant to bail, himself and one surety in £10. A LUNATIC. James Hicks was brought up on suspicion of being of unsound mind. ' Mr Bullen said Hicks had been before the Court in September last in the same way, and was sent to the Hospital: this madness was occasioned by excessive drink. Hicks was discharged for the purpose of being sent to the Hospital. MITCHELL AND BAE FIGHT, MAKE IT UP, AND DONT COMB TO LAW.. Cbarlei F. Mitchell was charged with that he did unlawfully threaten to burn the house of one James Rae, situated at Obinemuri. Both parties were duly called, but neither appeared, and the case was struck out. The Court adjourned.
