The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi.` FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1875.

Sjvebjll important matters were con■idered at the meeting of the Borough Council last night—not the least of which was the question of making provision for isolating cases of infectious disease should such make their appearance. The Local Board of Health have no power to do anything further than " report" the exSitence of disease; but even if they had the power nr> provision is made for funds ; and as it would be impossible for the Board of Health as such to fall back upon the ratepayers' money, their existence is simply an absurdity. The Superintendent had been communicated with, as President of the Central Board of Health, and asked to provide a sanatorium for the Thames. The letter was sent, on the 18th of January, and a reply—simply acknowledging the receipt of the letter, and stat* ing that the matter would' receive the attention of the Central Board—was laid before the Council last night. It appears to us that in this business the Superintendent is merely following out the course adopted by the Provincial Government towards the Borough Council ever since it was. called into existence, which, seems to be a systematic obstructiveness, remarkable for its meanness, discreditable to the Government, and calculated to seriously impede the working of municipal institutions here.
