Proceedings This Day.

Firing was recommenced this morning. The weather has been most propitious, in every respect but one—namely, the sun's rays were rather too powerful for such explosive exercise as , the shootists were engaged in; the Southern men especially felt the heat, coming as they do from a colder latitude. Very much interest has been taken in the firing to-day. < A large number of civilians and outside volunteers journeyed to the Camp and watched the progress of the firing closely. The representatives themselves have settled down to their work methodically, the excitement of the arrival being now over, and each is trying his level best to win. Details of the matches are given below:— THIBD CAVALRY MATCH. (1.)-Range, 200 yards; (2.) Ten shots; (3.) Ties to be fired off shot for shot at the same range as the match. Phizes.—lst prize, £5; 2nd prize, £3; 3rd prize, £2. ' The firing for this match commenced at 7 o'clock this morning, and it took 45 minutes to fire. There was much excite ment during the firing off the ties, and the shooting on the whole was very close, as the following scores will show:—

A. and M. Barriball tied at 32, and in firing off A..-., Barriball made a centre, taking first p^izev and M. Barriball an

outer, taking second prize Connell and Johnston each made 30, and,in firing^pff' made—first round, outers each; second round, centres each; third round, centres again; but in fourth round Connell made a bull's eye and Johnston an outer. Therefore Connell took third prize.

Range Phizes.—Highest score at 400 yards, £2 ; highest score at 500 yards, £2; highest score at 600 yards, £2. Match Phizes. —Ist prize, £15; 2nd prize, £11; 3rd prize, £10; 4th prize, £9 ; sth prize, £8 ; 6th prize, £7 ; 7th prize, £6 ; Bth prize, £5; 9th prize, £4; 10th prize, £3.

(Up to going to press this match; was incomplete.) At the conclusion of the firing at the 500 yards range, the representatives broke off for dinner, after which tfre firing was resumed. The Choral Society have invited the whole of the Representatives to their concert on Thursday evening, to which Colonel Lyon returned thanks on behalf of the Representatives. Touching the practice of bathing in the creek where persons cross to the camp, and about which some remarks were recently made in these. columns, the following notice has been posted up on the landing place, for the special behoof of those who, while having a desire to bathe in deep water, have no particular compunction to exposing their nakedness to strangers:— ; : "It is particularly requested that all persons desirous of bathing at or near the camp at Parawai, will do so before 9 a.m., or after half-past 6 in the evening. —William C. Lyon, Colonel." There were a number of Maoris on the firing ground ; also vendors of fruit, who were indebted to the warmth of the day for a liberal sale of their wares. The buses have been running to the base of Parawai Hill at intervals from an early hour this morning, and were pretty well patronised by numbers of persons who go to the camp for the purpose of seeing how the firing progresses, and then returning.
