A TOWNSHIP LAID OUT.
(fbom a cobbespondent.)
There has been for the last few weeks a continual flow of miners arriving here, and each day the number is increased. A few days ago, before Mr Mackay left, a party of natives were sent into the ranges warning all the diggers to return to the settlement, but that opposition is now withdrawn. The same party of Native policeman who were sent out have fitted themselves out as a prospecting party, and left on Sunday morning for the ranges. There are very few miners about the settlement—all out prospecting. The parties go out in daylight, many of the natives remarking it is " kapai." Several parties have returned from Waitekauri, and all speak favorably of that portion of the country. McKay and party showed a small parcel of very nice alluvial gold which they obtained there. All the prospectors speak feelingly of the great annoyance of the mosquitos in many places, sleep at night being out of the question. Both natives and Europeans are anxiously looking forward to the return visit of Sir Donald McLean, and a certain amount of dissatisfaction is already expressed. A township, owned by Messrs Jackson, Russell and Brassey, has been surveyed at Mr Austin's place, and will probably turn out a good speculation. ;
