The Chief Justice in charging the Grand Jury and referring to the case of Cecilia Allen, accused of arson, said it was impossible in a small community, to special provision for reformatories, .and suggested that one or two- should be established for tie Colony. He did not considerthe' calendar a - formidable one, and spoke in eulogistic terms of the conduct of .the Auckland jail. 'In the Supreme Court, Jane Gledhill, on a charge of stealing from the person, was sentenced to'six month's imprison,jnenti ' ' -..<*- -:- i. * Thompson, charged with embezzlement, v pleaded guilty. His sentence was ferred.William Perry, on a charge of breaking and entering, was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment. William Wirehouse, for embezzlement from Spence, grower, 18 months-imprison-ment. *<■< •. ; •<• . . ' : .. Wilson, charged with larceny as a bailee, was sent to gaol for three years.
