APPEAL TO THE BENEVOLENT.
The other day in Cpromandel a sad and fatal accident occurred. A man named Edward Wilson, going along the Wnikoromiko track, tripped and fell—rolling down a fearful precipice, and receiving injuries from which he died. The unfortunate deceased has left a widow and six children. Of the latter the only one who might have been of 'assist tnce to his mother had his hand torn off by machinery in a battery some eighteen months ago. Meetings have been held inCoromandel to devise means for the relief of tho widow and children, and already liberal subscriptions have been given, but the necessities of the case are such that a wide-spread-appeal to the benevolent is desirable. From an advance slip of tho report of proceedings taken in Coromandel, forwarded to us from tho Mail o'Pce, we learn that committees hare been appointed in Coromandel, Auckland, and the Thames; and having former experiences before us of the liberal-manner iv which appeals from the Thames have been responded to by the Coromandel people, we have no doubt the Thames public will heartily subscribe to the fund being raised. The Thames Committee appointed to receive subscriptions comprises the following:—Warden Eraser, E.M., Messrs Wilkinson, Sully,.. Dewar Tookey, Lawlor, Aitken, Mahoney, Richards, Donnelly, Millington, 6'Dowd, Kneebone,. Delaney, Mcllhone.lHeisary, Hopcraff, ltrcCullough, Bobertson, Stead-; man and J. B. Hannah. A subscription list lies at our office, and we shall be happy to receive and acknowledge the smallest donations from resident on the Thames in aid of the widow and her deplorably helpless family.
