One morn when Sol had climbed the trees And woke the birds to cheer him; . Across his dailjr;path he sees, , . . . .■ His Venus tripping hear him. Along her path of starry blue, Sparkling with love arid duty; Observed of all observers, who, i : :Were spying out her.beauty. ... - , And glancing round in quick surprise, He frowns as he discovers, . ? . Those naughty spies with prying eyes, That spoil the sport of lovers. These " Peeping Toms" wtiall hot destroy, Thd pleasure of our greeting; Or sneer at trusting loyars' joy, "• Ik happy hours fleeting. . - : . ■_; They shall not, dear, your charms descry To aid their wit or learning; When they might see with' half' an eye, My heart for you was burning.
