Fatal Accident.
An occurrence of a fatal character happened on the Thames Eirer this morning—a man lost his life. The Lallah Kookh, steamer, trading between Ohinemuri and the Thames, under the command of Mr H. Dalton, was proceeding up the river this morning, when, suddenly, a man named Henry Watson fell overboard while he was standing upon the top rail of ihe bulwarks dipping a bucket for water. Whether Watson was dipping the bucket forward or abaft of the paddlewheels, it has not yet been learned, but he would most likely have been in the fore part of the vessel engaged in such an operation. The Lalla Eookh was at once stopped and turned to look for a trace of the unfortunate man, but not a sign of him could be seen anywhere, and Mr Dalton returned to Shortland to report to the police. To all appearances Watson must have sunk immediately be fell into the water. Search will of course be made for the body. ,
