Wellington, Thursday.
A proclamation in to-day's Gazette declares the following provinces to be brought under the operation of the Inspection of Machinery Act, .namely :■—Auckland, Taranaki, Wellington, Malborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Westland, J«seph tfancarrow has been gazetted Chief Inspector of Machinery. The Presbyterian General Assembly is to conclude its sittings this evening, when the Moderator will deliver his closing address. .
This day. It is advertised that the reclaimed land has been withdrawn from sale, in consequence of arrangements being entered into by the Provincial Government with the Municipal Council. 1 . The Presbyterian General Assembly was prorogued last night. A resolution was passed recommending that steps be taken with the view of increasing stipends to country clergymen. Resolved that the first week of next year be agreed upon as a time of special effort throughout the whole of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church, with the view of arousing a spirit of religious revival as in Scotland at the present. The next meeting of the General Assembly will be held at Christchurch. in December, 1875.
