The special settlement scheme projected in our midit some time ago has not been ' lost sight of. The promoters interviewed Sir Donald McLean and Dr. Pollen, Colonial Secretary to-day, and,
as we ar© informed by telegram, the interview was very' satisfactory. In view of the probable opening of Ohinemuri,
and a large quantity of good land being
available for settlement^ the promoters cvi- ; dently do not intend to allow their claims to consideration to be neglected. At the interview to-day, besides the Native and
Defence Minister and the Colonial Secrc
tary, there were present His Honor the Superintendent, the Provincial Secretary, and Messrs. W. Bowe, W- Payne and H. Mcllhone. His Honor the Superintendent is known to be extremely favorable
to the special settlements scheme, one of
the chief objects he had ija view when __cflnter^latiiig-iLJKiaiiLtoLßritain being tbe i promotion and encouragement of such settlements.
