APPLICATION FOB TEANSFEES
Frederick Oassin applied for the transfer of the Queen's Head Hotel to James Stewart. Mr Brassey for applicant. License granted. .*•-— Thomas Clark for the Rising Sun Hotel to William Swindells. The Police reported that the house was not in good repair. Mr Dodd, who appeared in support of the application, said he was instructed that the repairs were being performed now. Granted. Fredrick Cock, for the Pembroke Hotel to Henry Winchcombe. Application granted. Mary Hogau, of the Ballarat Hotel, to James Harrison. The police had no objection, but the Chairman said he was ipformod that Harrison was merely a substitute for a man to whom a license had been refused at the E..M. Court, namely, Wm. Eose —that he was merely a servant. The "Bench could not grant a license to Eose under cover of this man. It might be true or untrue. He wondered that the license victuallers did not cooperate to form a society by which they would have a means of protecting their own respectability, and preventing two or t^ree black sheep giving the whole trade a bad name. The complaint came from such a reliable authority, that he did not think he would be justified in rt commending his fellow commissioners to grant the license, Mr Podd. appeared for applicant, and said Eose was lessee of the property, but had nc other interest. He would produce Harrison to vouch for this upon oath.
James Jtiarrison said before he went into the Hotel he was a cook for Mr Austin at Ohinemuri. The house was for himself. He laad the money of his own. Mrs Rose lived at the back pf the house. She was cooking for- him. Koso had a cottage at the back of the house, and lived there when he was in town. He would swear that the house was for himself. Rose had no family. Didn't know whether Mrs Rose would remain there. She was employed by witness.
By Mr Bullen.—Kose did not write or send io me to come and take the hotel. Eose's furniture was in the cottage. Some of it was in the hotel. Witness bought some furniture from Rose. By Mr Dodd—l pay a pound a week to Rose.
Mr Brassey said Murdock let the premises to Rose, ' On the statement of Harrison the application was granted. James Johnstone, Prince Alfred Hotel, Grahamstowh to Daniel Tookey.' The police reported thajt there were no conijplaints, but house' wanted repairs. .Repairs had been m.ade. Application granted. Henry Kelly, of the City of Glaigow
