THE HOLIDAY.
Today being the anniversary of tlio patron saint of Scotland was observed as a holiday by nearly everybody. Very few places of business were opened, except, as in some cases for an hour during the early morning, and the town looked about as sleepy and unbusinesslike as on most holidays. The weather was fine with the rise of the sun, and continued so, thought at times the clouds threatened to discharge themselves, and thus spoil the dresses and enjoyment of the holiday makers. Last St. Andrew's Day was greeted with wretched weather, and many fears were entertained that such would be the case this year. Though no actual sports were got up, manykinds of enjoyment were opened to.hcli-day-makers, all of which were taken advantage of to a greater or less extent.
