RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before W. Fbaseb, Esq., 8.M.)
James ISTorton was charged with that he, being anofficer of the Hibernian Australian Catholic Benefit Society, and haviDg in his possession belonging to the said society certain money, did withhold the same. The information was laid by Michael Landers. :
This case was adjourned from the 14th instant, on account of an informality in the information. Mr. Miller asked the Court to allow this case to stand over for a week by consent.of the parties. Adjourned to 28th instant. A NEGLECTFD HOBSE. Joseph Lenton was charged with having committed a breach of Section 43 of Part 1 of Borough Bye-law, by allowing one horse to be in Baillie street, Shortland, without any person being in charge thereof. Defendant pleaded not guilty ; he had not known the horse was there until he was told.
Mr Bullen said the tether rope of the horse was too long and being fastened in an allotment adjoining the street, could and did get on to the footpath. Martin Furlong, Constable, deposed —That he saw a horse in Bailie street The horse was on the footpath, and a man came and claimed the horse as Lentous. Defendant said he left the horse in the stable when he went out.
Peter (a Kanaka) said he recollected seeing Mr Lenton's horse. He tied it to a fence and it got on the footpath. He was paid by defendant. A fine of 2s 6d and costs was imposed. A. LOOSE COW. Thomas Edwards was charged with having committed a breach of Bye-law No. 1, same section as above by allowing a cow to wander in Pollen street, Shortland. Defendant said he had shut the cow in at night but it got out. Fined 2s 6d and costs. The Couit adjourned.
