THAMES CHORAL SOCIETY.

Tlie Thames Choral Society gave their promised concerb in the Academy of Music last evening. The attendance was excellent, considering the horrible nature of the weather, and therefore in that part the affair was a success. And the rendition of the programme was no less so. In tho first portion most of the choruses in the service were performed admirably-—those especially noticeable being the Gloria, Credo, and Benedictus. In the latter the singers surpassed themselves, for fewcould have expected to hear it rendered in such a masterly style. The orchestra, also, worked splendidly, and it is needless to mention any one instrument in it, unless it be the flute played by Mr. Bishop, this effect of which was very fine. The second portion of the programme was devoted to secular music, and as all of the executants are well known ifc will be unnecessary to_ particularise the success attending this or that performance. A loud encore was accorded to Mrs. Mitchell —who, as a lady amateur, is a great favorite both here and in Auckland —on her singing " Esmeralda." In responding, Mrs. Mitchell sang "'Twas Within a Mile of Edinburgh Town." Mrs. Payne also received an enthusiastic call for her cantation of the " Gipsy's warning." A pleasant little dance followed, at which a good number attended, and enjoyed themselves muchly.
