In the Supreme Court the . case of shooting through a window of the Koyal George Hotel, Newmarket, is proceeding.

In the Police Court three lads (hew arrivals) were sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment for eight charges of theft. One of the prisoners, on leaving the Court, impudently said, " He hoped Almighty would deal with Beckhamas mercifully as he dealt with them."

The case of Thomas Morris, for alleged forgery of an order.for 23s Gd on Timothy Burke, of Mahurangi, was called for. There were ten witnesses. The prisoner was committed for trial. The Magistrate commented upon the state of the law, which rendered it impossible to deal summarily with offences of this kind.

Coromandsl, This day. The Union Beach got out a good parcel of specimens yesterday and today. The crushing is looking up well.

The Eoyal Oak people have taken out specimens from the stopes.

The City of Auckland will start crushing immediately.

A counter memorial has been sent to.the Superintendent praying him not to bring the Impounding Act into force in Coromandel. The original petition was got up by the wealthy lower orders.

Mr. John King has been elected a member of the School Committee.

The, Gazelle, bound for Auckland with timber, has been wind bound several days. The Petrel and Mary are also in harbour from the same cause. They will sail to-day.
