NONPAREIL AND ITALIAN AMALGAMATION SCHEME.

(To the Editor of the Eveniag Star.)

Sib,— l kindly ask your indulgence for a brief space in reply to "Onlooker's" letter, which appears in this morning* Advertiser. The writer of that letter ia intimately acquainted as to the relationship of the Central Italy Company with the adit level in question. It was an arrangement entered into between the two bodies of directors, each to pay a certain proportion towards ifs construction. Has the Golden Calf Company paid their proportion ? No, but on the contrary, they owe the Central Italy Company upwards of £60, and but for the forbearance of this latter company's directors would hare appeared before the Warden ere this. As to having the use of the adit only on " suffrage," well this is only a red herring thrown across the scent to intimidate those shareholders of fcho Italian Company who intend to oppose the amalgamation with the Nonpareil Company. •• Onlooker" knows too well it is utterly beyond the power of the Golden Calf Company to interfere in the supervision of the adit, they having forfeited all rights by the noncompliance with the contract the two companies entered into. The letter of "Shareholder" is said to emanate from the same source, as " Onlooker's,'; As it is pretty well known that the talented manager of the ; Nonpariel Company knows a litlie about them, I would deem it a favor if that gentleman would kindly enlighten me, as to what benefit would be conferred on the Italian Company? The letter which appeared in your issue of Friday, signed by an " Italian Shareholder," has .been quietly passed by, but I think the Nonpariel management, would hare employed their talents to better advantage, if they had refuted the statements contained in that letter,, which has, I beliv©, retarded the progress of amalgamation ixffi very great extent. ; > \ i ""■'"■ " .'• ■• ' . v ' Itauan.
