■ During the past month, business has shown but little animation, but trade has been sound, and accounts have been met more promptly than far some months past, traders acting ■with more caution in both buying and selling. Markets for all descriptions of produce show a very firm to»e. FJour d/.ring the month was lowered 205," but shows signs of recovering. Souihern brands £13 10s to £14 10s, with an upward tendency ; Adelaide, £18 to £18 10s for first brands; country make, 20s lower; nuize, 6s, market firm; oats, 6s, short supply j barley, 5a 6d; bran, Is 9d to 2s; pollard (very scarce), 10j. Hams, bacon, and cheese are in fair enquiry. Oilmen's stores are dull of eale. Potatoes, Botwithstanding late arrivals, maintain their price. The market •was completely bare before the arrival of tlie Vivid and Tien Tsin. Both cargoes appear to have been landed in good condition.
