THAMES HOSPITAL ENQUIRY.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Siß,--In your contemporary's leading article this morning on this subject there ISi.M° i bt a little t° be approved of, whilst there is a good deal in it to be condemned. At the very outset he places himself in th« exact position of those gentlemen whom he accuses of partizanship, that is supposing his accusations against them ware true. At first I was disposed to condemn the course pursued by the Committee in reference to the so-called tampering of witnesses, but on considering the matter, again I am of opinion that the public m general will approve of the course they have pursued. Why so? The Committee ia in the position of a jury who has to try a case. Unquestionably they are a jury, if not in its legal, at least in its most important sense. Then if a person placed on a jury to try a case was known or suspected to tamper, with any person who was to give evidence in that case, so as to induce such witness to give evidence in a particular manner, by all means it is of the greatest importance that this should be ascertained, Now, this is accurately what the Eev. Mr. Hill has done, and I am certain that any person who will look at this case in an impartial manner must approve of the adjournment for that reason. I do not see anything more in the editorial remarks that is worthy of notice. To say the least, the reasoning and inferences it contain?, as well as the references it makes to some of the witnesses, are really shameful. _-■./■■■ JUSTITU. Friday. :
