City Auction Makt, September 18, 1874 _ I cannot report; any improvement in business during the -week. Sales of the usual routine manner, from he nd to mouth, only occur. A decided want of tone is felt throughout the district, ard will continue until the Texed question of the upper country is settled. The Prince Alfred from Lyttletoa direct arrived last Tuesday, but, owing to the high \ prices ruling thero for produce, was not a full ship, and her imports were not sufficiently large to alter quotations. Her owKers complain bitterly of the want of facilities for discharging, &c. She proceeds up the river, and will lake in a cargo of timber for the South. Quotations are about as follows :— Adelaide town brands £18 to £18 10a, slow of Bale; Southern £14 to £15, fair demand; maize, N.S.W., 5s 9d to 6b, supply bare 5 oats in moderate demand for seed, and are worth 6s for good samples; wheat, 5s 9d to 6s; barley, 5s 3d to 5s 6d; bran, Is 9d to 2« ; potatoes are very scarce, and ia ahort supply, commanding full ratea according to samples, £10 to £11. Oilmen's stores and groceries, quotations nominal 5 good salt butter, none in the market; second quality, Is to Is 4d; Canterbury cheese, B£d to 9d ; hams and; bacon, in cloth, lid to 12d. * Edwik Bihnex.
