THAMES HOSPITAL ENQUIRY.
(To the Editor of tho Evening Star.) Sir,—Any. person who might have felt an interest in this subject would have considered that the whole business would have been so very simple that there could be no difficulty whatever, in making that enquiry. That the committee, as they should have done, would first hear the plain unvarnished statement of any person who could give them any information on the subject, and then, after doing so, if they found that there were no grounds for complaint to hold up for public contempt whoever originated the enquiry : or; if there was a cause of complaint or even a doubt that there was such a thing, by all means they owed it as a duty to the public to remove even that doubt. Now, instead of doing this, some persons evidently have connected the enquiry with the most vicious propensities. But the most notable fact of all is that frivolous " terms" have been converted so as to express an honest meaning, and of; course this has been done for an honest, purpose! What an absurdity. It is almost impossible to write patiently about this subject. The idea of converting what should be a simple «nquiry not only into hair-splitting technicalities about words but also into what seems to be a monstrous Sphynx, unnatural in all its proportions. Sir, the real question of interest to the public is not, was it a good; "smash" a bad smash, or no smash at all; but simply, was Mr. Power, or anyother person, whilst a patient in the hos-i pital, neglected thereiu ? I have no hesitation in saying that the less lawyer-like the proceedings which surround this enquiry the more satisfied will the public be, at the decision come to by the committee.; SppsGEi#Eß No. 2.,
