Our Mining Reporter.

THE BRIGHT SMILE.

The new reef discovered in the new low level, has opened out to about c ighteen inches thick. I saw some very nice goldbearing stone that was taken from it this morning. I may be mistaken, but the gold looked of a better description than generally: seen in the Waio-Karaka. The workings are free of water although a considerable stream is being pumped out of the mine. I may state that the last new level has been, opened out at a depth of two hundred and. eighteen feet from the surface. There are two winzes going down on tlio No. 2 lode, and one on the number'l, each of which looks well; there is also a winze going down on what is called the shaft-lode ; there are actually four lodes now in the mine. The one cut in the lower level lies in a first class sandstone country, easily worked. The engine works easily, tho pump going a little over ten strokes per minute.
