THEATRE ROYAL.
Tie Magnet Variety Troupe performed at the Royal on Saturday evening for the benefit of Mr. James McLiver, the comic singist of the troupe. There was a very good attendance in the pit, and a fair show in the gallery. A very strong programme was provided for the occasion, and it is fair to say that it was carried out with merit, the gymnasts especially giving evidence of more than ordinary ability. It must- be acknowledged that the performance of Masters Brown and Philips on the stationary and flying trapexe, styled " the Aerial Flight,'' was more than could be expected of most amateurs,, whether young or, old; and they deserve unqualified credit, not only for the efficiency which they have attained by hard practice, but for the fearless manner in which the hazardous performance is gone through. The entertainment was in all respects a success; and it is to be hoped that it has proved so in a pecuniary sense to the beneficiare.
