DEATH OF MR. A. BEVERIDGE.

It is with extreme regret we hare to announce the death of Mr. A. Beveridge, which took place at his residence, Remuera, this morning at half-past six o'clock. Ifc will be remembered that come weeks ago the deceased gentleman was reported to be very ill, but about the time that an Auckland morning journal announced his death the illness took a favorable turn and it was hoped that he would recover. However, about ten days ago, Mr. Bereridge's illness took an unfavorable turn, since which time his friends have have not had any hope of his ultimate restoration to health. Their worst fears have been realised, for Mr Beveridge succombed to the malady which has afflicted him as above stated. The deceased gentlemap has for a long time occupied a prominent position as a public man, and was chosen by the Superintendent as one of his Executive, namely, Provincial Solicitor. Mr. Beveridge, too, was an enthusiastic Mason, having occupied several positions of importance in connection with the order, and only a short time ago ho received a commission 'appointing him Prorincial Grand Master for tho North Island under the Scottish Constitution. The funeral of the deceased will take place in Auckland on Tuesday, and we learn that a number of members of tho Sir Walter ■Scott Lodga and Lodge of Light will proceed to Auckland to be present; and assist in performing the last offices to a departed brother. The GroTernment offices will be closed, and arrangements hare been made for the Golden Crown to make an early trip from the Thames on Tuesday, returning in the evening.
