DEPUTATIONS TO THE SUPERINTENDENT.

WHAEF EXTENSION. [Regarding this matter, the same deputation that waited upon his Honor yesterday interviewed him again this morning, having constituted themselves a committee. His Honor intimated that he had not yet received the report of the engineers, Messrs Lodder, Aitken and McLaren. The Committee suggested that Mr. James Mackay, jun., and Mr., Errington, C. E., should confer with the engineers, in order tfiatthe best local authority might be obtained. Those gentlemen were accordingly requested to confer with the engineers. The report will be to hand on Monday, at 11 o'clock, when his Honor will announce to the Committee his intentions respecting the request made. SETTLEMENT' HILL. A deputation, consisting of the members of the Parawai Board, Mr. Spencer, Chairman, waited upon the Superintendent this morning to urge upon His Honor the necessity which exists for having the hill cut through which leads to the settlement. Mr. John Sheehan was present; also there were three natives interested in the land,' namely, Rewi, Nikorima, and Te Moananui. Eewi expressed himself in strong terms as against the work, and when asked by Mr. Sheehan how much the land was worth, said £500,000,000. His Honor expressed himself in favor of the idea, and said he was sorry to see such an obstruction existent, but he could not give any immediate and decided reply, as he did not want to raise a difficulty with the natives. He intends holding a meeting with' the natives at which to come to some arrangement. :■ ' ;
