THE TOOKEY COMPANY.
This Company has finished their large chamber on the 400. feet level, and are now engaged in laying down their platt, the iron covering for which arrived by the Golden Crown frpm Auckland yesterday ; when finished it will be yery spacious, being 14 feet high 13 feet' broad and 19 feet long*. A permanent traroroad is being laid from the chamber to the chamber of the United Pumping Association's shaft, and thence to the face of the level now being driven northward throTigh. the Tookey Ground, at the joint expense of the'Tookey and Albion Companies. The skids will be fixed'in one of the winding compartments to-day, and
hauling from the 400 feet leTel with the cage will then commence. There is every prospect of the neighbourhood of the Todkey shaft being the scene of extensive operations, as the Imperial Crown and the Alb;on companies liaro already made arrangements for using their shaft for raising their quartz through, as it is one of the best; shafts for that purpose on the field. We "expect soon to hear a good re» port from these mines, as means ara now provided for carrying ou their works without interruption. - . '
