THE BRIGHT SMILE.
I am informed that retorting would hare taken place for this company at the Tararu batt»ry last Saturday, but for an accident; it seems that owing' to the cold weather or some other cause, the spur wheel attached to the turbine partly stripped its teeth, when either starting or working. This was partly remedied by repairing, but on resuming work the wheel lost more teeth and became useless. This will throw the Bright Smile Company out in "their yield, as they hare had twenty head,of stamps idle for eight days. A new wheel has been cast by Price Bros., and will be in position during the week. From the mine I have little to report, the reefs in the mine are still continuing their enormcus thickness; in fact, they can hardly be called reefs, but large bodies of crushing stuff unstratified and easily worked. The workmen sinking the shaft are now down 37ft. from their starting point. The demand for drays by the Bright Smile Company has been partly satisfied; the water in the mine still continues undiminished in volume.
