THAMES GOLDPIELDS HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the General Committee of the above institution was held in the Salutation Hotel yesterday afternoon. Present: Wm. Rowe, (President), the Revs. Hill, Crump and Lush, and Messrs. Frater, McDonald, Bagnall, Mcllhone, Souter, Sims, McCullough, Day, Hudson, Power, C jx, ICennan and Renshaw. , Tho minutes and reports from the House Committfi?, surgeon and treasurer were received and adopted. Before the adoption of the Treasurer's report* Mr. McCullougU drew attention to the fact that the expense of maintenance of the Hospital, especially the amount paid as salaries, war very heavy in proportion to the average number of patients treated for the last twelve or eighteen months, the monthly average not being over twenty persons as in-door patients. The next matter brought before the meeting was a motion by Mr. McCullough that a committee of investigation should, be appointed to enquire into certain statements that he had heard respecting the treatment a patient of the Hospital had received, and which accusations were also printed in the colums of the Evening Star. Upon the mention of the letter in the Star several members of the Committee gave vent to their virtuous indignation that any notice should be taken of,.such a letter by the meeting, being convinced in their own minds that no neglect had been shown by servants in the Hospital. After such remarks Mr. McCullough defended his action in the matter, pointing out that he was quite in order in asking for such a committee of investigation* and that some of the speakers had made remarks about a njatter they knew little about. The following gentlemen were nominated by Mr. McCullough and elected a subcommittee for the purpose:—Rev. J. Hill, Messrs Renshaw, Frater, Mcllhone and Souter. The House Committee for tlie ensuing month were then appointed, which concluded the business.
