Ik consequence of the Golden Crown not "running there is .every probability of the : Thames -portion of the English mail for. transmission via San Francisco being left behind. This must undoubtedly be the ,cair<unleis the sailing of the Cyphrenes be further postponed, of which there was a.Tumour this morning. ■ At half-past two o'-clock to-day the Postmaster of the Thames had .received no intimation that the time for closing mails had been extended. We may therefore make up our minclstQ losing the mail. Should it be 'ikfierwise we shall be thankful | but in auy case it is apparent that the convenience of the. Thames public is a matter s which the Auckland Steam Packet Company 'arid'the Postmaster of Auckland sedm to think'^entirely beneath their consideration; ' Tlie -former being a company, responsible to no one, can do as they like ; but the ( Auckland Ifqatmaster ought certainly to have' advised the Thames Postmaster of any alteration in the date of the ,Cyphrenes, sailing, if alteration has been decided upon.
