Wellington, This day. On the House resuming last night, on the estimate for Training School, Mr. Macaridrew hoped that the item had not passed before the bill was introduced. The Premier defended the idea as beneficial to the whole colony, and it passed on the voices. The remainder of the estimates were then passed without dis'cussjion.Sexceptirig that>for the. militia and '■ volunteers of the South Island, £7,401, 7s 6d, which Mr. J. E. Brown considered a useless expenditure and called for a division, but the estimate passed on the voices. ; ! Ah interesting debate took place on the Qualification of Electors Bill. Mr. Macandrew moved its second reading that day six months. Mr. "Reader Wood warmly supported the measure, and announced sereral amendments he would propose, so as to make the bill resemble one brought down by Mr. Gis borne in 1872, by providing—that the franchise be extended to every male of 2ilyears, members accepting office to vacate seats being eligible for re-election, writs to be more speedily issued for triennial parliaments. Messrs. T. Shepherd, CNeill, and White, goldfields members, strongly opposed the bill, as virtually disfranchising goldminers. After a long discussion Mr. Stafford moved an adjournment to Friday, and the House adjourned at 0.15. A meeting of persons interested in the formation of a Cooperative-Cattle Dealing and Butchering Society, Limited, was well attended last night. A report was submitted, shewing that notices of application for 917 shares.had been received, and promises made to apply for many more as soon as a committee was formed, A provisional committee was elected. A meeting to report progress will be held* a fortnight hence. It was resolved that the bank of the Society be the New Colonial Bank, an account to be temporarily opened at the Union Bank.
Auckland, Tuesday.. \ - Counsel on behalf of Harris and Macfarlane announced to-day in Court that an arrangement had been made to determine all disputes, and prevent future litigation between the parties. The three actions by Harris against Macfarlane pending are withdrawn. : The Waitemata election created great interest. All the returns are in except those from Helensville, Huia, and Lucas's Creek. They show that Mr. Yon der Heyde has a majority of 84.
