The Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. SATURDAY, JULY 25, 1874.

Wb almost did Mr. Sheabau an injustice -. when we expressed a doubt of his supporting the Thames petition for additional representation heartily, while at the tame time he had no hope of the petition being , granted; for wo find that he made a plucky effort on Thursday to have the representation of the colony readjusted, »nd lost his motion only by a small majority. The Herald's correspondent says that the division on the motion was , the closest that has been taken this session. Mr. Sheehan having accepted it as a foregone conclusion that any attempt to disturb tho distribution of represcnta- . tires during this sossion would prove ■. abortive, we were warranted in the opinion we expressed. To advocate any measure heartily a man must bo imbued with some hope of success. We owe our thanks to Mr. Sheehan for his exertions,

and wo hope that he will m&ko another attempt before the session is over. The Herald's correspondent says that "Southern members speak broadly of the scandal of the under representation of the Thames; One member proposed that Mr. O'Neill should vote twice on ©very question cropping up in. the House." The Southern Cross says the motion for readjustment is likely to crop up again ; when it does we hope success will attend the movement.
