VISIT OF HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT.
His Honor this Superintendent arrived from Auckland by the steamer Golclen Crown last evening, accompanied by the Provincial Secretary and Provincial Tre'a^ surer. He was soon after interviewed by several deputations from local bodies on various subjects,-a. digest of which are given below. , . ~' ■ •■. ; DEPUTATIONS. : _. } Iri reply to a deputation from tno-^Para-wai Board, inquiring what portion of jthe grant for goldfields roads would be givea to the Parawai Board, His .Honor started that a very small portion only would; be given as there was no mining being carried on there.., The Government wouldcontribute £200 towards the cost of the bridge between the Municipality and Parawai districts. , ! .^
The same deputation made application for assistance in making a passable road over the hill beyond the Rob Roy Hotel, J towards the Maori settlement. The master ;was referred to the District Engineer. A. deputation from the Waiotahi Bodrd submitted plans pf the first i section of the main road to Punga Flat. The estimated cost would be £700, and after some conversation authority was given to proceed with the work. Messrs'. Rowe, Mcllhone, Spencer andPayne brought under the notice of His Honor the fact that great efforts were being made by privatel individuals to purchase the Upper Thames land, and asking the' Superintendent to inquire into the matter, as there appeared to be no one acting for the Government during the absence of Mr Mackay.L The deputation thought that if the land were to be sold it could >: be disposed of to.■:■ bona fide settlers.'" The Superintendent promised to, give his attention to the matter if pro^ vided with written date. < .: ;..-. With reference to over-due grants to Road Boards His Honor said that; if! written application were made by those' to whom i monies were due, the amounts would be .paid. •''..■ . . ;. ;. ■ To His Worship the Mayor's question when; the Water- Works would be handed over, the Superintendent; suggested that' the Borough Council should communicate with the Government. ; To Mr Macnab, Chairman of the Kauaeranga Board His Honor stated that the money voted for. Road Boards had not yet been apportioned.
