His Honor this Superintendent arrived from Auckland by the steamer Golclen Crown last evening, accompanied by the Provincial Secretary and Provincial Tre'a^ surer. The master ;was referred to the District Engineer. A. deputation from the Waiotahi Bodrd submitted plans pf the first i section of the main road to Punga Flat. The estimated cost would be £700, and after some conversation authority was given to proceed with the work. Messrs'. Rowe, Mcllhone, Spencer andPayne brought under the notice of His Honor the fact that great efforts were being made by privatel individuals to purchase the Upper Thames land, and asking the' Superintendent to inquire into the matter, as there appeared to be no one acting for the Government during the absence of Mr Mackay.L The deputation thought that if the land were to be sold it could >: be disposed of to.■:■ bona fide settlers.'" With reference to over-due grants to Road Boards His Honor said that; if! written application were made by those' to whom i monies were due, the amounts would be .paid. •''..■ . . ;. ;. ■ To His Worship the Mayor's question when; the Water- Works would be handed over, the Superintendent; suggested that' the Borough Council should communicate with the Government. ; To Mr Macnab, Chairman of the Kauaeranga Board His Honor stated that the money voted for. Road Boards had not yet been apportioned.
