Mr. Hicks, on behalf of the City of London Company, handed the Chairman a telegram he had received from Auckland^ which read as follows—"Attend meeting, but directors don't empower you to bind them." Mr. Beeche (Crown Prince) also handed in a telegram from the directors to the effect'that they were in doubt as to who drainei their mine, and declined taking action. The Exchange bompany for the present stood *16of, as also
did the Queen of the Thames Company. On the telegram from the directors of the City of London being read, considerable surprise was expressed, and it. was ; thought that the City of London Company had placed themselves" without -the pale of the object of the jneeting. He would rather have a Pumping A bsociation for that hnp of: reefs oply. Mr Bleasard thought that the difficulty could be met by the claims contributing to both the Bright Smile - pumps and that of the Association. The. money to be distributed in proportion to the water raised. Several speakers agreed with Mr Bleasard. Oh the motion of Mr Whitford, „. th c following resolution was passed^l'hati.tlie com£ panics and inines -on the ' Waio-karaka flat unite in defending any action that may be brought by the Pumping Association against them, comprising—the Queen of.
