ADJOURNED LICENSING COURT.
(Before W. Fraser Esq., R.M., and H.
Workman, Eeq., as Licensing Commissioner.)
Ifc was intimated that Mr Kcnnan. was away sick, and that Mr Brown was also absent in Auck'and, attending his duties as a member of the Provincial Council. Oapt. Fiaser said that in his opinion it was best.to proceed to business, as the license fee must be paid in b^tho :30th of this month; and r that^it/ r woiil^^e/ajdyi?able— if possible, to" gef all the Commissipßers together atvßO&esfiitureKdate^ and get them to confirm to-day's proceedings. His Wbrship' read a-circular received from Mr. Lusk: calling attieht on of commissioners :j&ndl justices to the clauses relative toJtipuse^ ,jn outlying and remote parts of tlie district. ; Mr Tyler represented two clients who applied for bush'licenses at the reduced scale. ■/.,■ :.- v/ •;
Captain Fraser was of opinion that that was a question that concerned the applicants. If a house was situate in the bush and no road near it that led anywhere, be could not see that it was actually a house of accommodation.
Mr Tyler, in reply, contended that the object of the legislature^was, if a house situate in the bush could not afford to pay the larger sum remunerative to the proprietor the ;lesser sum should be charged, and one of his clients, Mr Eou! ston,, ; was a ft c&se in point. It is a house giving accommodation. . Captain Fraser said that the commissioners now sitting would adjourn the question of reduction, of licenses for a full Court.
