THE BIRD IN HAND.

A. parcel of specimens came to hand this morning from the drive being put in towards the sea. The gold in this company's claim seems to be running in that direction, and a good body of stone is still met/with in the face of the drive; some of the specimens .shown this morning are very rich, the gold being coarse and well distributed through the stone. There are now three claims on the Thames pushing their works towards the beach —the Bright Smile, Crown Prince and the Bird in Hand, and the nearer they approach the beach the better the stone.
