Wellington, This day. The Wennington's passengers landed are clean and kealthy, and a good sample. The La Hogue's passengers are muchthe same. The depot being still full of Wennington's passengers, the others will have to remain on board for a few days. During the La Hogue's voyage there were three deaths and six births.

At the General Synod the Committee upon the marriage procedure of the Church have reported upon the matter, and stated that they saw no ground for altering the usages of the Church in regard to marriage. The report of the Committee appointed to inquire into the Standing Committee of Auckland in refusing fire risks outside that Province, stated that, as the Committee had determined to abandon all fire insurance business no grievance now existed. The Bishop of Auckland moved that, on the recommendation of. the members of the Melariesian Mission, the Eev. J. E. Selwjn be appointed to the bishopric of Melanesia. After discussion, the Eev. Mr Willcock moved as an amendment that it would be expedient under all circumstances to defer the appointment of a successor to Bishop Patteson. The motion was withdrawn and the amendment carried. On the motion of the Eev. G. E. Beaumont Christchurch was fixed upon as the next place of meetting of the Standing Commission, members of. Commission to be —the Primate, Mr. Justice Gresson, the Dean of Christchurch,P. Hanmer, and J. B. Ackland.
