ACADEMY OF MUSIC. Messrs. De Lias and Collier's dramatic and burlesque company opened at the above house last night for a brief season. They were to have been there on the previous evening, but owing to the detention of the Golden Crown in Auckland, the company were unable to reach the Thames soon enough to 'fulfil their engagement. The pieces last night were "Aurora Floyd " and the burlesque of "Ixion." In the former the interest centred on two characters —Auroa as played by Miss Stephenson, and Softy as played by Mr. G W. Collier, whose rendition of the part we spoke of in terms of commendation on a previous occasion. Of " Ixion " it is unnecessary to speak beyond saying that the performance of this sparkling burlesque was capitally sustained., Miss Stephenson as the Man at the Wheel was most vivacious, and the remainder of the characters were well represented according to the burlesque notion of gods and goddesses. Tonight a change will be made in the programme.
