THE HERALD BATTERY.
This battery—which waa used for years past by the Moanatairi Company for the reduction of their stone coming from the mine through what is. known as the big tunnel—has been completely overhauled, and put in thorough repair. The renovation has been most complete: the stamps and boxes have been looked to, the tablet reeoppered, and a water-way has been constructed 457 feet out to sea, to as to insure a constant supply of clean salt water; two new berdans nave been erected, and the whole plant it now in thorough working order, and is one of the most complete 20-head batteries on the field. The repairs have been carried on under the immediate supervision of Mr. Charles Ellis, who seems to have carried out his instructions faithfully and well. The battery is at present rather awkwardly fixed as to stuff that may be sent to 'it from the flat, the feeding-plat 'being too high for drays to get at and tip. No doubt some improvement will be made in this respect.
