THE LATE EDMOUND TRAUTMAN.

A meeting, convened by advertisement, was held last night at the office of Mr Melhose, Exchange Buildings, to devise means to assist the widow and family of the above deceased. Mr Beeche was voted to the chair, and briefly stated that the object of the meeting was to assist the wife of the deceased, who was in bad health and very poor circumstances. He (the chairman) thought that the widow's wish to be enabled to go with her family to Germany should be complied with. There was a family of four young children, and the probable cost of sending the mother and children home would be about £100. —Mr Melhose proposed and Mr Bierstoff seconded a proposition that the present meeting form itself into a committee, consisting of Messrs Workman, Melhose, Bierstoff, Jas. Grolds-. worthy, Wm. Goldsworthy, B. Schenk, H. lleitman, Schielow, Beeche and Daniels, to carry out the Chairman's sug- 7 gestion, adding the whole of the mine managers on the field to the Committee. —Carried. —lt was elicited that the Bright Smile manager had already taken action, as he had a list in aid of McAuliffe's family; the amount gathered to be divided between the two families bereaved. It was resolved that Mr. Oldrey be requested to act as Secretary and Mr. Grant as Treasurer, and also that Mr. Ehrenfried's name be added to the Com* mittee, he being President of the German Association on the Thames. It was also agreed that subscription lists should be forwarded to Auckland and Coromandel for contributions from the fellow countrymen of the deceased and others. A sub-committee was formed to carry out preliminaries previous to the next meeting, to he held at the same time and place one week from last meeting.—A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
