PERSONAL.

Dr T. L. Parr was a passenger by the second express north yesterday. Mr H. G.. Naylor is at present on a visit to Christchurch. Mr J. Leggott returned to Timaru from Christchurch yesterday. Mr R. B. Bell returned to Timaru from the north yesterday. Sir Joseph Ward was a passenger for Wellington by the express for the north yeterday. His Honour Mr Justice Reid passed through Timaru yesterday on his way to Wellington. Sir C. E. Statham, Speaker of the House of Representatives, passed through Timaru yesterday en route to Wellington.

Mr A. E. Russell, editor of tho “Clutlia Leader,” left by the second express for the south yesterday after a short holiday in Timaru. The National Council of Women elected the following officers: —Dominion‘president, Mrs C. A. Fraer (Christchurch) ; secretary, Miss H. K. LoveliSilli th (Christchurch); treasurer, Miss S. E. Jackson'(Auckland). An Auckland message says:—Miss Bille Ar.dressen, of Auckland, -has been declared the New Zealand winner of the First National screen contest. She goes to Melbourne, where the Australian finai will be decided.

Mr T. D. Burnett M.P., for Temuka, last night received the following telegram from the Hon. It. A. Wright, Minister of Education: —X will be visiting South Canterbury, most porbably, on March 22, and will call at Geraldine to discuss wTr.li the committee of the District High School, the question of an enlarged school and a new site.” A Palmerston North Press Association message says that the Bishop of London on Wednesday, motored from Wellington to Palmerston North, and proceeded to Flock House and tho Diocesan School at Marton. At both places the Bishop addressed tho traineesi and scholars, giving them healthy advice. Later he left for the north by the “Limited” express.
