BROOKLAND’S HILL.

TENDER WITHDRAWN. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Levels County Council it was reported that Mr Seyb had withdrawn his tender for deviation work at Brookland’s Hill. The work, a tender for which ivas accepted some time ago, lias been held up pending negotiations between the County Council and the Highways Board, the latter claiming that 25ft was sufficient width for the cutting, and the £ouncil holding that the amount of traffic on the highway makes a 33ffc roadway at this point desirable.

Mr Kerr asked what tho " position was in regard to having to relieve Mr Seyb of his obligation, and asked how long it was since tenders had been calioi for the contract. The engineer (Mr T. IKackl said that tenders were id in November last, and the prescribed time for holding Mr Seyb to his contract had expired. Mr Kerr spoke in condemnatory terms of the Main Highways Board’s part in this matter. Tho chairman thought Mr Kerr was going rather far in condemning the Highways Board for holding.the matter up, on account of there being a difference between them concerning the width of the road. Mr Kerr, however, said that the de-. lay meaijt that the work could not be commenced until next spring, which would probably mean,.further expense.
