INTERNATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE. «fy Cable—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 5.5 p.m., April 13.) LONDON, April 12. The international Rugby League match resulted in England beating Wales by 30 points to 22. The match was played at Pontypridd. The weather was beautiful, and the attendance totalled 23,000. It was an exhilarating game in the first half, marked' by frequent spectacular bouts of short passing. At the interval the scores were: England 19, Wales 13. s On resumption Wales lost .Jones,.of. Leeds, who was injured, while nearing the end Hodder (Wigan) was carried off. England had the advantage of heeling from the scrums. RUGBY UNION.
The first monthly meeting of the . newly appointed Management Committee of the South Canterbury Rugby x Union was held on Saturday night. Present—Messrs H. H. Fraser (chairman), D. Hertnon, W. Watson, C. Clarkson, G. Fail-brother, H. J. Washer, J. Wilson, F. Davey, and J. V. Mclieague, (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Father Kerley. _ The president extended a welcome to I the members of the committee, especially the now ones, and trusted all would [ work harmoniously for the good of the ' game, forgetting sectional interests. ; The Old Boys’ Club made application ' for permission to send a senior team to ' Oainaru on April 17. —Granted. Tho employees at the Power Board’s ’ sub-station, Teniuka, made application ■ for affiliation; and advised that the ’ team would be known as the Power Board Pirates, . their colours to be black, with skull and crossbones. After discussion it was decided “That as tho needs of tho district are amply provided for by the Temulta and Waihi Clubs, and having regard to tho present position of those Clubs, it is not consideredl in the best interests of tho game that another club should be affiliated at the present time.” The Auckland Rugby Union advised that its representatives intended mak--1 ing a southern tour this season, and asked if the Union would make an advance equal to that made in 1922 (viz. £SO)- —Agreed to. The Marlborough Rugby Union wrote regarding tho possibility of a visit from a South Canterbury representative team this season. It was decided to reply that it had not been decided whether a tour would bo, undertaken this season. Tho Star Club wrote making application for the use of the Athletic Grounds on Saturday, -April 10, to play a match with the Excelsior Club, Oamnr u. / Tho secretary adyised that, after re- i ference to tho president, the applio- i tion had been granted. The game, i bad, however, to bo put off until tho ! 17th. inst;, and the ground would now 1 be required-on that date. The action of granting the ground was approved, and the use. of the ground granted for .the 17th inst. It was decided that season tickets, to admit to all matches run by tho ! Union, be issued at a. cost of £1 Is for j febts and 12s (xl for ladies, the ticets .to admit .to the grandstand. { It was further decided that compcttiom should commence on Saturday, May 1, and that entries should close on April 21. Charges for admission were fixed at gentlemen Is, ladies 6d, grandstand 6d. Tho following sub-conunittees were appointed—Ground Messrs D. Hertnon, J. Wilson and E. Davey; flag— Messrs C. Clarkson, W. Watson, li. Washer and G. Fail-brother;- insurance —Messrs F. Davey, J. Wilson and D. Hertnon; entertainment —Father f Kerley, Messrs J. Wilson and H. Washer. At a further meeting of the coni- ' mitteo there were present Messrs H. PI. Fraser, D. Hertnon, C. Clarkson, G. Fairbrother, H. J. Washer, F. Davey, W- Watson and J. V. Me Keague, (secretary). J pose of inspecting the now grandstand, I , and grounds, and deciding on any fur-1 1 tlior. improvements. | It was decided not to proceed at present with filling up tlio ground in front of the stand; but that steps be put along the front. A fence is to ho run from the stand straight out after allowing for a small entrance gate, a largo exit gate to be included in the fence. Mr Hertnon submitted plans and estimated cost of alterations to the old stand. It was agreed that the work be put in hand at once. The secretary advised the estimated cost of erecting a score board was £5 6s, and lb was agrered that this was very reasonable and that tlic beard he erected, the location to be at the left of the, main entrance and at a suitable angle.
