In the opening match, at the close of play tho scores were: Shailcr 100 L Smith 4qq Shailor (Australia) opened the first, session brilliantly, and scored 2GO in half an hour, including■ breaks of 27 and 76. Smith (Scotland), who so far had had few chances, then had five useful replying with JO, 29, 2,'i. and 79. The night session yielded the Australian 501, an average of 20).
