Mr J. Mating was in Timaru yesterday. Mr W. H. Hunt returned to Timaru from the North Island yesterday. The Ven. Archdeacon Julius left for the north by yesterday’s express. Mr J. J. Ardagh left Timaru yesterday for the north. Mr D. McLennan was a passenger for Christchurch by yesterday’s second express. Cqmmissioner Hoggard, of the Salvation Army, left Timaru for Tcmuka yesterday. Mr J. R. Tcmplin, consulting engineer to the South Canterbury Power Board, was in Timaru yesterday. Mr and Mrs R. H. Taylor, who have been spending a holiday in Dunedin, returned to Temuka yesterday. Mr N. I). Edwards, controller of the money-order and savings hank, “Wellington, and Mrs Edwards are visiting Timaru. 'The Right Rev. Monsignor McKenna, Masterton, arrived in Timaru yesterday, and is staying at the Priory. Mr H. Chapman, district traffic manager, Now Zealand Railways (Christchurch) returned north yesterday. Mr R. Williams (secretary to the Masterton Agrieullural and Pastoral Association) who has been hero for the past fortnight, left on his return to Masterton yesterday. A Press Association message from Opotiki says that Alfred Parkinson, a Maori War veteran, pioneer and settler of Opotiki, aged 75, who arrived in Now Zealand nearly 58 years ago, coming to Opotiki in 188(1, and saw thirty years’ service in the Opotiki Volunteer Bangers and Constabulary, has i i ceivod the King’s badge, a Now Zealand medal, and lias been created a King’s Empire Veteran.
