MYSTERIOUS DEATH OE EY TEMUK.A MAN. By Telegraph—Press Association. HAMILTON, April 12. A man’s foot and a portion of a log protruding outside a large empty packing case;at the rear of . William Mnir’s china and fancy goods shop, in Victoria Sercet, this afternoon attracttlio attention of a girl from an adjoining shop. Upon examination, she. discovered the dead body of the proprietor lying head downwards. Deceased, who came about three years ago from Temuka, where his wife is at present on holiday, had been receiving treatment for heart-trouble and blood pressure for some time. He remarked to a friend only a few days ago that lie was feeling, a great deal better than lie bad for some time, jir the meantime, however, the . circumstances of bis death remain, a mystery.

Naiikervils, aged GO, lost liis- life through failing down the hold on tjm s.s. Kaituna, and sustaining injuries Rom which lie subsequently succumbed iirtho Grey River hospital. Deceased was engaged loading timber into No. 2 hold of the Knituna. At about 8.45 p.m. the loading ot the hold was practically finished, an tar as timber was concerned, and space - for
coal /was left in the hold, the depth being about 1711. The workers were | engaged in placing a beam across the 'hatchway, when it is presumed Nankervils stepped backwards into the space left. Tie sustained injuries, including a fractured pelvis and ribs. He was conveyed to Hie hospital at once, and succumbed to his injuries at 1.45 a.m. yesterday. Deceased was married and loaves a widow and three sons. At the inquest .several witnesses asserted that the hold was badly lighted. The inquiry was adjourned to enable the Coroner to inspect the lighting

George Duel's (00;, ot i’endarves, died in the Hospital as a result of injuries received through falling off a dray on Thursday. A wheel passed over him, causing a comminuted fracture of the right thigh. OVERCOME BY SULPHUR- FUMES. By Telograph—“Press Association ROTORUA, April 12. Andrew Grey' Muir, Public Works engineer, superintending the construction of the Rotorua Drainage Works, descended the junci,on pit at tlio corner of Erueia and Fenton .Streets, presumably- to inspect. Frederick Davies, taxi and motor works proprietor, adjoining tlio- pit, looked down and saw Muir in a states ol collapse. He gave the a.arm and Henry Charles' Church, a worker, jumped into tile pit, seized Mr Muir, and held the body up above the lames till assistance arrived. -He was completely unconscious. Mr -Muir was ainbulanecd to the hospital where he lies in a serious condition. , T'lie sulphur fumes were particularly bad, tile weather conditions prevailing accentuating the danger.

Erederipk Hands .of Manurewu, sustained, cuts over the eyes and a broken arm’.' His’condition is not serous.
