Sparse news is available regarding tlie sudden coup d'etat resulting in the resignation of President Tuan-clii-.'iii, and the release of the ex-president Tsao-ium. This was the outcome (f discontent among tncm'xTs of flic Kiio-min-cliuii (otherwise the Council of Ministers) with the position of affairs. The coup was carried not by Getieral Lu-ehnng-lin, acting under command of General Wu-pe.i-i’.i, m the greatest secrecy. The gates were closed late, at night, telephones cut, and for several hours President lluan-c'ii-i ji .s ic’iulqiiariers were surroin led.
