An Appeal, CONVENT OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, MOUNT MAGDALA. CHRISTCHURCH. "THE completion o£ the building o£ our new Convent, and the added financial burden we have to hear, forces us to again appeal to our kind and charitable friends. While the construction of the Convent was in progress we were forced to incur unforeseen expenditure in various departments of our work, and this has brought our indebtednes to a figure far beyond the originally estimated amount. That our kind friends may undersand the nature of the work of the Good Shepherd Community, we would explain its three principal departments:— 1 THE ORPHANAGE, in which we provide a home for orphan children and young girls. 2 THE PRESERVATION CRASS, in which we offer shelter and protection for young women confronted with the dangers incidental to our times and social conditions. 3 THE HOME EOR WOMEN; in this department we provide for women of feeble health or declining years, and requiring the comfort of home life and congenial surroundings. It is our rule that no applicant be refused, and we accept persons of I every religious denomination. Wc are thus confronted with the task of caring for nearly 400 inmates. This will convey some idea of the heavy expenses we have to meet. We gratefully acknowledge the generous help we have received in the past, and we are thus encouraged to appeal to the same generosity in the great, and even crushing, burden of debt with which we arc now confronted. Our benefactors will have our sincerest gratitude, and we most earnestly pray that God may reward our many kind friends of every faith, j who have enabled us to harry on the work of the Good Shepherd, and to provide for. all entrusted to our care. Our new Convent is to Era opened on Sunday, April 18th, and this occasion urges us to make this appeal and to commend our appeal to your kindness and charity. Yours most gratefully, THE SISTERS OK THE GOOD SHEPHERD.
