THE WEATHER. Tlie weather, after being seasonably cool, with light frosts, and, before Easter, occasional showers, has been almost summery during the last day nr two. Thursday commenced with one degree of frost, but early in the afternoon a hot sun dissipated the fogs which were hovering round the hills, and the air was decidedly warm. It became so hot in the afternoon as to make the footballers wonder whether they had mistaken the .season, and the warmth had an adverse' effect on the limiting pack. Friday was a cool day, hut on Saturday the atmosphere was decidedly sultry.

THE HARVEST. fitook threshing is now almost at an end in Waimate district, and the mil's are now busy threshing from stank. Taken all round the yields have been above the average. In the Willowbridge district, for instance, the lowest tally is 48 bushels, which represents a crop of Dreadnought, badly affected by •‘'J’ake-all.” There have been many instances of seventy bushels to the acre, but the highest yield is expected to be greater than this. HUNTING SEASON (3PENS. The opening moot of the Waimate District Hunt was held at the Kennels on Thursday, April Bth. The day was very hot and told on the horses, most us yet being fairly soft. A good fast run was obtained, but scent ran out at the top end of Sir Court’s property. Hounds wore packed up soon after this, the heat telling on them as well as on the horses. The following wore out: —The Master (Mr N. A. Rattray) on Auburn, Huntsman (T. Hobbs) on Conductor, Whip (S. Turner) on Trimmer. DeputyMaster (Mr J. fv 'Manchester) on Colleen, Miss C. MeLnolilan on Seif Defence; Miss It. Hertslctt, Ginger; Miss Brown, Denizot: Capt. R. Btirdon, Buster; Messrs •J. Waldie. By Jingo; A. Thompson, Monko; B. Whitney, Mabel; L. The monthly meeting of the' committee of the AVaimate A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon. There were present —Alessrs Af. Afcßae (president). J. IT. Milne, C. Faulkner, W: F. Chcverton, R. Sinclair, P. Hunter, J. G. Hay, J. T. Hay. J. O’Hara, E. C. Studhohno, A. W. Barnett, P. Hunter, and T. Hamilton. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Air W. Brown was passed, the members standing in silence, and the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence. J. Pow, secretary of the Royal Agri-. cultural Society, wrote notifying that the second annual eonforence of A. and P. Associations would he held at Wellington on Thursday, Alay 28th. > The president was unpointed the delegate to represent the AVaimate Association at the conference. The Otago A. and J’. Association wrote inviting the AATiimate Association to send a delegate to a conference'of A. and P. Associations to he held at Dunedin on AA’ednesdnv, June 2nd. — The letter was received. The South Canterbury Exhibition • Committee forwarded six copies of the book'd,. “South Canterbury Illustrated. " which wore laid on the table. Letters were received from the following A. and TV .Associations, notifying dates of shows:-—Ashburton. Tlmrsdav, 4th November; AVaikalo, 3rd and ■lth November: AVnirarapa and East Const, 27th and 28th October. The president referred to the extra work entailed by the placing of numbers on the pons at the showground each year, and suggested that the numbers be painted on the pens; and on his motion it was moved that it he a recommendation to the new committee that the numbers on the pens bo nainted on and made permanent. Air Alcßae reported on the improvement work now in progress at the showground. TTe said that the contractor, ATr Hawke, was making a very good job of the grading round the ring, and when completed the work would bo of great benefit to the publi? on show days.

Air Dayman endorsed the remarks of Mr Mcßae, iiml a dik'd that the spats •which had to lio I'oinovod to allow of the work being done would have to bo replaced. The secretary reported that tho Borough Council grader had boon procured for the work, and the meeting decided that a letter of thanks he foi" warded to the Council for the use of tho grader. The annual meeling was arranged for Saturday, May Bth. The secretary reported that the recent ram fair was the most successful yet held from the point of view of entries, the total being 403. representin'; 22 vendors. The entry fees totalled CIO Is fid, and £T 2.s 6d was received from the sale of catalogues. Against this_ was !fn expenditure of £'s Os for printing, which left a profit of £5 18s. The entries by the five firms were • made up as followsC.F.C.A. 117. X.M. and A. Co. 100. Pyne. Gould. Guinness 77. Dalgetv and Co. 72, and X.Z. .Goan Co. 2R. Accounts amounting to £2 os 2d were passed for payment.
