SON CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER.

Bruce Havelock Strong, who shot his father, following a family quarrel, and: who was charged with murder, was found guilty of manslaughter, and remanded for sentence. A. previous message said:-—Fol-lowing a family quarrel in which Alexander Strong (57), is alleged to have threatened members of his family at Smith’s Creek near Murwillumbati, his-son Bruce Strong (26) is alleged to have fired two shots with a rifle at his father, killing him. Bruce Strong was arrested and charged with murder. In a statement to the police he said he fired in self-defence. At the inquest, evidence was given by a son, Alexander, who said the deceased used to threaten to blow the family’s brains out. He gave instances of acts of cruelty by the father to members of tho family. The Coroner said although the evidence showed that deceased was a remarkably cruel man, and became practically a maniac when, under the influence of liquor, b e couhl not define tho accused's action as anything other than murder, and committed him for trial.
