CRICKET.
AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS ABROAD. ; MORE PEN-SWISHING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyrijht. Reuter’s Teleerams. (Received April 9, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 8. ■C. E. Kellpway, ..cabling to the “Daily Express" from Naples, after describing the voyage, adds: “Many enthusiasts met the train on the transcontinental route, where speeches were made. The trend of these showed few thought the team was Australia’s strongest side, but as Australians they stood behind them, win or lose.” Warren Bardsley, in his third article, disagrees with Tate’s view that Ponsford is unlikely to succeed on English wickets. “His faults are .merely those of inexperience, which England’s slower wickets will provide an opportunity of correcting. There are doubts as to how he will accommodate himself to the swinging ball which is a trial to all .young batsmen on the first visit. All the same, I .am confident he will, return a greater batsman than ever. Woodful is now a first-class batsman on-either good or bad wickets, and as he has begun to go out to the bowling, the Englishmen will find him the hardest to got out. -Richardson can punch the ball with the' ferocity of Bonnor or Massie, but , when required can sit on the splice., j His good length spin bowling will be (most valuable in England.” 1 JUNIOR CUP PINAL.
